How to Actually Organize a Small Kitchen
Small-kitchen organizing goes wrong when people buy storage products before actually sorting what they own. Here's an order that avoids buying the wrong bins twice.
1. Empty and Sort Before Buying Anything
Pull everything out of cabinets and drawers first. You cannot correctly size drawer organizer trays or fridge bins until you actually know what you're storing and how much of it there is.
2. Fix Dead Corners First
Corner cabinets waste the most space in small kitchens. A lazy Susan turntable turns an unreachable back corner into usable storage β this is usually the single highest-impact change in a small kitchen.
3. Go Vertical Inside Cabinets
Most cabinets have wasted air space above stacked items. Stackable bins and the inside of cabinet doors (via a hanging door organizer) both add storage without adding footprint.
4. Make the Pantry Airtight
Transferring dry goods into a matched set of airtight containers does two things: it keeps food fresher, and uniform shapes stack far more efficiently than a shelf of mismatched bags and boxes.
5. Solve the Junk Drawer Last
The junk drawer is a symptom, not a cause β by the time everything else has a home, an adjustable drawer tray only needs to catch what's genuinely miscellaneous.
